Happy St. Patrick's Day

by Brook Peterson, Author, 3/17/2023

"May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow. And may trouble avoid you wherever you go."

-Irish Blessing

I've become acquainted with many interesting superstitions while writing the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries since the character of Grandma Lily is a firm believer in them. In Lily's honor, I thought I'd share a few specific March superstitions:

  • March 15, also known as, “The Ides of March” is considered an unlucky day because it's the day Julius Cesar was killed in front of the Roman Senate. It is often spoken as a warning: “Beware the Ides of March.”
  • Referred to as "drowning the shamrock," put a clover in your beer or Irish whiskey, then drink.  For good luck, throw the drowned clover over your left shoulder while toasting St. Patrick.
  • Wear green! Legend has it leprechauns can’t see you if you’re wearing the verdant color. And if they do see you, they will pinch you!

 I updated my website

I can now sell ebooks and other specialty items direct to you on my own site. It's a very exciting development and one that I've been looking forward to for a long time.

Happy Valentine's Month

by Brook Peterson, Author, 2/13/2023

If February is Valentine's month, I say let's celebrate everything we love. Love for a partner, love for a child, love for a pet and mostly, the love of reading.

Ernest Hemingway famously said, There is no friend as loyal as a book.

As fellow bookworms, I'm sure you agree, with times in your life when books have been your most constant companions. Little Dog disagrees, believing that dogs are certainly more important than silly old books. For me, I want them both. A cuddly pooch by my side while I curl up with a great story.

Reading Recommendations

by Brook Peterson, Author, 1/16/2023

I'm diligently working on Book 3 in the Jericho Falls Cozy Mysteries and can't wait to share this new mystery. In the meantime, I have a few reading recommendations for you.

  • Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club Series featuring retirement-aged amature sleuths
  • Sue Grafton's Alphabet Series, my all-time favorite PI series
  • Robert Galbraith's Cormoran Strike Series. These are dense books but really well-done.

If you'd like easy links to any of these, I have them listed in my Favorite Things.
